Spiced Apple Crumble with Browned Butter & Cheddar Crumble Topping
What’s easier than pie? Crumble! This brown butter apple crumble gives this classic dish a little upgrade — a browned butter crumble topping featuring the warm, caramel notes of The Fawn and rich, nutty browned butter. This dessert feels both rustic and special, whether you serve it straight from the baking dish or plated for a softly elegant gathering.
What You’ll Need:
1 lb apples, peeled and sliced
Juice of one lemon
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/3 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon salt
For the crumble topping
4 tablespoons salted butter, browned and cooled
1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup The Fawn, finely shredded
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 375°F.
Grease a baking dish with butter and set aside. In a mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, spices, sugar, and salt. Spread the coated apples evenly in the prepared baking dish.
In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat, stirring often, until it turns light brown and smells nutty. Remove from heat immediately and pour into a heat-safe bowl to prevent burning.
Add the flour to the cooled brown butter and mix until combined. Gently stir in the brown sugar, then add The Fawn and mix until the topping forms soft crumbles.
Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples. Bake for 35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple mixture is bubbling.
Remove the crumble from the oven and let it cool slightly. Serve warm, alone or with salted caramel ice cream!
