What You’ll Need:

  • 2 cups all purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 1/2 sticks of butter, cubed

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/2 cup butter milk

  • 6oz 3 Year Reserve Aged Cheddar

  • 1 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped

  • Egg wash

    • 1 egg

    • 1 tablespoon water

  • Apple butter

How to Make It:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400.

  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder and salt together until evenly mixed. Cut the cubed butter into the dry ingredients using a pastry blender or a fork until the butter is in pea-sized pieces.

  3. In a separate bowl, mix the eggs and buttermilk. Add the mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Add in the 3 Year Reserve and fresh sage and gently knead until the they are evenly combined.

  4. On a floured surface, press or roll the dough flat until it is about 3/4 inch thick. Cut into squares and then in half to form triangles. Our triangles were about 2-3 inches on each side. Line a cookie sheet with baking paper and place the scones about an inch apart.

  5. Brush the tops with egg wash and bake for 25 minutes. Once the scones have finished baking, let them cool slightly before serving with apple butter and your favorite tea.
